VEGETATION FUTURES TOOL

This web application is designed to support management decision-making in the face of potential vegetation transformations in the future that may be catalyzed by fire, among other disturbances, under changing climatic conditions.

Specifically, the app shows projections of plausible vegetation types under a +2C° future (roughly mid-century), agreement among projections for a given location, and the vulnerability of a given location to vegetation transformation. These metrics are based on the results of climate analog models, which identify locations today that harbor the climates of the future and evaluate the associated vegetation types. (It is important to note that processes like dispersal, not captured here, will also shape the vegetation of the future, in addition to climate.)

Users can toggle variables on and off, compare between current and future conditions, and generate figures and reports for a specific area of interest either by drawing that area, uploading a shapefile, or selecting a pre-existing management unit. For details on methods, please refer to the paper Hoecker et al. 2025.

X Download Data
This application allows you to download raster datasets. These datasets are large and some are 1gb in size. You can choose to download the entire dataset or a smaller, clipped area within the map's extent.

If you choose to download the smaller, clipped raster, the map will zoom to the allowed zoom level. You can then drag the map to position over the area you would like to download.
